The term oathbound when referring to a tradition means that practitioners take Oath's at certain points in their training to not reveal certain rituals, techniques or knowledge to those that haven't taken the same Oath's.
Within Path of Light the reason for this is to make sure that someone has the necessary understanding, knowledge and ethical framework to not harm themselves or others with certain magical techniques.
